Housing & Community Planning Director – Town of Brookline

The Town of Brookline (pop. 63,000) is hiring a Housing & Community Planning Director to lead the Community Planning Division in the Department of Planning and Community Development. Brookline seeks an entrepreneurial manager to lead a series of affordable housing and Community Development Block Grant policies, services, and development.

With an updated Housing Production Plan near completion and a Comprehensive Plan update that will commence this winter, the Division will be focused on creating and preserving affordable housing units and designing equitable community planning processes. The Director will guide policy direction for our Community Development Block grant program and leverage local funding sources for affordable housing including the Affordable Housing Trust fund and newly adopted Community Preservation Act.

Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a range of community partners and have strong problem-solving abilities. Chinese, Russian, Korean, or Spanish language skills are desirable

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in planning or related field and five to seven years of experience in public planning management, affordable housing and the creation of programs and projects utilizing federal and state grants; Master’s degree highly desirable; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid driver’s license is required. AICP desirable.

Starting salary $107-113k plus a comprehensive benefits package, including up to four weeks vacation, pension, and excellent health and dental insurance coverage. Eligible for hybrid work schedule.
