Associate Planner/Housing Coordinator – Town of Amherst

The Town of Amherst is excited to have a Housing Coordinator position join the Planning Department to support affordable housing projects and work with the Municipal Affordable Housing Trust.  The position will have the opportunity to be involved with various programs and developments, and perform independent tasks.

Job Summary
Part of a team of town staff who undertakes initiatives and projects to increase the supply of affordable housing in Amherst. The position’s duties balance the priorities of the Town and the Affordable Housing Trust, such as researching housing initiatives, writing reports and grants, and helping to facilitate the development of affordable housing.

Duties are varied and require good research and writing skills, and an ability to interact with town staff and members of the public as well as developers of affordable housing.  This position attends Amherst Municipal Affordable Housing Trust meetings and occasionally Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals meetings.

Desired Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree plus 2-3 years of work in a field associated with public policy, housing development, architecture, or planning.  Demonstrated ability to work with personal computers and software systems and ability to work under pressure with deadlines. Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment. Ability to effectively interact with and provide service to the public; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to handle stressful situations.
