The Mayor’s Office, working in tandem with the Somerville Arts Council (SAC), OSPCD Planning, Preservation, & Zoning (PPZ) and Economic Development (Econ) divisions, promotes equitable access to arts and cultural space and equitable representation of diverse communities, histories, and artistic expression.
The Arts Space Manager is a leadership position and requires team building across multiple city departments and with the city’s cultural sector as well as property owners and/or development teams. The selected candidate will be charged with implementing the recommendations in the recent report, Arts Space Risk Assessment, performed by the City of Somerville and the Metropolitan Area Planning Council. These recommendations will ensure that Somerville preserves existing arts spaces and generates new arts and cultural spaces within new developments to ensure Somerville’s Cultural Landscape, and its arts community, not only survives but flourishes.
