The State of Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) has a Bus Service Planner (Transportation Planner 2) position available in the Bureau of Public Transportation, Office of Transit and Ridesharing, Bus Service Planning unit in Newington, CT. This Bureau of Public Transportation is directly involved in the operation of the statewide multimodal transit network including eight (8) divisions of the CTtransit state-owned bus system and CTfastrak – an Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) Silver Standard Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. In addition, we manage contracts for service provision with all transit service providers and with Connecticut Transit Districts. In total we provide over 42 million passenger trips per year.
In this role, you will be involved in programs with statewide or regional impact and make decisions based on many variables which directly impact the outcome of the program or project. Responsibilities will include:
- Leading the development of a monthly operating report format which will assess our services
- Leading the National Transit Database (NTD) reporting for both bus and rail services including monthly and annual reports
- Developing and maintaining the Geographic Information System (GIS) for our transit service areas and training other staff on how to create maps for their projects
- Developing new programs to benefit transit users
