GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: To supervise complex professional community, regional and statewide short-range and/or long-range planning functions and to coordinate the work of planning units engaged in such functions; and to do related work as required. Plans, organizes, coordinates, supervises and reviews the work of planning units, and planners engaged in special projects.
This position will supervise the day-to-day work of the Division’s Transportation Planning Group, which develops and updates a variety of transportation plans related to pedestrian, bicycle, rail, highway, and other transportation facilities. The ideal candidate possesses a strong interest in and at least 4+ years’ working experience and knowledge of all transportation modes. The candidate should have the ability to manage projects, staff, or consultants or develop studies and plans; the ability to work cooperatively; the ability to collect and compile a variety of quantitative and qualitative data; the skills needed to prepare reports, plans, memos, presentations, maps, and related graphics. The candidate should be able to research and apply federal and state transportation requirements and standards. Strong writing and GIS skills desired. Attendance at one evening meeting monthly will be required.
Education: Such as may have been gained through: graduation from a recognized university with a Master’s Degree in Planning; and
Experience: Such as may have been gained through: employment which involved responsibility for the supervision, guidance and direction of subordinates engaged in professional planning functions related to community, regional and/or statewide programs. Or, any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.
