Assistant Planner – The Town of Plymouth, NH

The Town of Plymouth, NH is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Planner. Plymouth is a friendly small town with the energy and culture of a college town, a vibrant and walkable downtown, excellent outdoor recreation, and a location that offers easy access to commerce and service as well as the Lakes Region and the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

The Assistant Planner provides technical and professional support for planning and land use functions. The Assistant Planner reviews applications for development for the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Adjustment, drafts staff reports, assists with coordinating technical reviews of applications, coordinates public notices for applications, and maintains paper and digital project files. The Assistant conducts site visits and reporting about the status of development projects and compliance with land use regulations. The Assistant Planner also provides public information about planning and zoning, attends meetings, and gathers information for special projects such as proposals for grant funding. The position reports to the Planning and Development Director.

Candidates should have knowledge of municipal planning concepts and procedures; effective verbal and written communication skills; strong organizational skills and ability to keep accurate records; problem solving skills; the ability to work with integrity; proficiency with personal computers; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other Town employees, the general public, developers and their agents; and the ability to multi-task and prioritize work with multiple deadlines. This position requires a Bachelor’s degree or similar training in planning, geography, or a related field. While experience in community planning is preferred, any other combination of education and experience relevant to the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform essential job functions will be considered. The salary range is $45,000 to $64,000. In addition, the Town of Plymouth offers an excellent total compensation package, including health/dental insurance coverage, retirement (through the NH Retirement System), paid holidays, and paid vacation.
