Hearing Officer – Department of Public Utilities

The Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (DPU) has just posted an exciting job opportunity for a Hearing Officer, in the DPU’s Siting Division.  The Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (DPU), a state agency that regulates public utilities, together with the Energy Facilities Siting Board (EFSB), seeks a Hearing Officer to work on agency proceedings regarding siting of major energy facilities in the Commonwealth. Review of proposed major energy facilities includes electric generation facilities, electric transmission lines and substations, natural gas pipelines and related equipment, and large fuel storage facilities, to ensure a reliable supply of energy, with a minimum impact on the environment, at the lowest possible cost.  The Hearing Officer will work on complex legal, technical, and policy issues matters as part of an interdisciplinary team with other attorneys as well as technical staff. Responsibilities include conducting proceedings, adjudications, rulemakings, and addressing general legal matters. The position requires at least three years of full-time professional experience in the practice of law; knowledge of administrative law, public utility law, energy policy or environmental law preferred; and must be a member of the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers in good standing.
