Assistant Town Planner – Town of Branford, CT

This senior position is responsible for coordinating and, in conjunction with the Town Planner, performing reviews of subdivision, site plan, and special exception/permit applications for commercial, recreational, industrial, and residential development proposals.  The position involves significant responsibility and requires ability to provide explanation, technical advice and information to prospective developers, the public, attorneys, engineers, and other Town staff on matters relating to land use and development.  You would also assist the Town Planner and other professional staff in providing support to the Planning and Zoning Commission, Design Review Boards and other land use agencies as well as undertaking or assisting with various planning related projects including implementation of the 2019 Master Plan (known in CT as the Plan of Conservation and Development – which includes a TOD plan and Coastal Resiliency Plan), preparation of amendments to land use regulations, and grant applications.

A Bachelors’ degree in planning or related field and four years’ municipal experience (preferably but not necessarily in CT) in reviewing land use approval applications as well as skill and experience in reading and interpreting site plans, drawings, and specifications; interpreting and explaining complex planning/zoning regulations, ordinances, reports and studies; and effective written and oral communication would be of interest to us.   GIS experience desirable.
