Planner I or II  – Barrett Planning Group

Barrett Planning Group has an opening for a Planner I or II. The person selected for this position will be expected to perform the following duties:

  • Develops planning studies and reports in support of new and updated plans and policies
  • Collects a variety of statistical data and prepare reports and maps on topics such as census information, land use, economic data, tax base data, and occupancy rates, and prepares data visualizations for a variety of audiences
  • Acts as liaison between community groups, government agencies, developers and elected officials in developing neighborhood plans
  • Assists in resolving citizen and client issues
  • Coordinates work of other consultants on teams lead by our firm
  • Conducts field evaluations and assessments
  • Attends many evening and weekend meetings

Required/Highly Desirable Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of planning
  • Knowledge of land use, economics, affordable housing
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of data collection; research methods and statistics; data visualization
  • Knowledge of effective writing techniques
  • Knowledge of GIS, Tableau, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator), Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word

Minimum Skills

  • Oral communication and interpersonal skills to explain information clearly to the public
  • Creative problem-solving skills
  • Ability to create graphic designs, sketches, and advanced visualization techniques
  • Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment as needed

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree; 1-2 years experience would be ideal.
