Under the supervision of the Transportation Planning Manager, with potential additional tasks to be completed, as needed, on behalf of other parts of the agency, the Transportation Planning Technician assists primarily with data collection, and in supporting the day-to-day functions of a busy Regional Planning Agency (RPA), one of thirteen across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, with responsibility for twenty-seven municipalities (four cities and twenty-three towns; 2017 population 633,317).
Job duties include: assisting with data collection for various transportation, transit and other planning studies and analyses; helping with deployment of automatic traffic recorders; conducting traffic and turning movement counts; assisting with National Transit Database (NTD) bus riding; assisting with park and ride lot and other transportation surveys and outreach initiatives; together with other duties as assigned. Attendance at some evening and night meetings required.
A degree in Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, or closely related field is preferred.
Ability to conduct field work; speak, read and write the English language; and familiarity with Windows-based software programs. Looking for a team player committed to growing and excelling in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. At the same time, we are also seeking an independent, self-starter able to take initiative on projects and related field work.
Position may be filled at a lower or higher level depending upon qualifications. This position will remain open until filled.
$33,000 to $45,000, depending upon qualifications.
