Job Description: Under the supervision of the Transportation Planning Manager, SRPEDD seeks part time summer interns to perform a variety of transportation data collection tasks necessary to support the day-to-day functions of the agency. Duties include assisting with the temporary installation of traffic counting equipment, manual turning movement traffic counting, survey of pavement conditions, and passenger count surveys on local bus and transit providers.
Qualifications: Applicants should be enrolled in a College or University with a major of Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Urban Planning, or Geography. Knowledge of transportation engineering, traffic analyses, and GIS systems a plus, but not required. The intern(s) will work in an outdoor environment exposed to weather elements; move about on active roadways, sidewalks, and uneven terrain; lift / carry objects for automated data collection; and be able to read / write inside a moving vehicle. The intern must have a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation. The intern will be reimbursed for mileage accrued during work related tasks.
The employment period is May through August (2020) with a four-day work week (Monday thru Thursday) at a minimum of 30 hours, but not to exceed 38 hours per week. A typical work schedule is 9 AM to 5 PM, but hours and days (including weekends) may vary based on data collection needs. The position pays $14.00 per hour based on education experience in the transportation field.
