Economic Development Director – Town of Burlington

About the Community:

The Town of Burlington (population 25,552) seeks applications from qualified candidates for the position of Economic Development Director.  A vibrant business community has long been the cornerstone of the identity and financial stability of the Town.  Conveniently located 14 miles northwest of Boston and easily accessible from Route 95/128 and Route 3, Burlington is currently home to a robust and diverse collection of commercial enterprises within the retail, life science, technology, and medical sectors.  Approximately 150,000 people per day flock to the Town to work, eat, shop, play or take advantage of the numerous outdoor recreation areas. Burlington is home to over 1,500 corporations, 9,100 residential housing units and is served by both MBTA and LRTA bus lines which provide a connection to the regional rapid transit system at Alewife.  As local competition increases and industry needs continue to evolve, the Town seeks to remain ahead of the curve when it comes to attracting and retaining the right mix of businesses.

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Town Administrator, the Economic Development Director plays a key role to develop and implement business attraction, retention and expansion programs.  This position will facilitate market opportunities for small enterprises, encourage new investment in targeted areas of Burlington, and support a high quality of life for the workforce in Burlington.  The Economic Development Director will serve as the main point of contact for businesses, developers, property owners, and real estate professionals in the Town and will help businesses navigate through the processes required to execute their initiatives. 

Qualifications:

Must have a degree in Public or Business Administration, Economic Development, Planning or a closely related field, Master’s degree preferred; 3+ years of related professional experience, considerable knowledge of local business and economic development policies and programs; familiarity with local, state, and federal grant and incentive programs, and other applicable economic development tools and opportunities.

Salary is competitive and dependent upon experience and qualifications and includes a comprehensive and generous benefits package.  This position is included within the Administrative and Professional Classification Plan at Grade 15.  Full-time, non-union position.
