Senior Planner – City of Worcester

The Executive Office of Economic Developments seeks to fill the vacancy of Senior Planner. The Senior Planner is responsible for supporting a variety of current and long-range planning activities involving subjects such as development review, land use, zoning, urban design, and comprehensive planning. This position provides professional and technical assistance to Boards and Commissions, including the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals. Additionally, the Senior Planner formulates and makes recommendations, provides local officials/developers/engineers information regarding planning, zoning, and subdivision regulations, and is required to attend two to three evening meetings per month.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of the principles and practices of city/urban planning; land use/development review experience; knowledge of zoning and subdivision control laws; ability and willingness to work with diverse populations, organizations, and interest; excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; excellent written and oral communication skills; proficiency with personal computers, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; and familiarity with land use/development review, as well as with GIS mapping and analysis.


  • Bachelor’s degree in city or regional planning, urban studies, geography, civil engineering or other related discipline, and four (4) or more years of related professional experience, OR;
  • Master’s degree in city or regional planning, urban studies, geography, architecture/landscape architecture, civil engineering or other related discipline, and two (2) or more years of related professional experience

SALARY RANGE: $64,075.28 – $71,234.18 annually, full time
