The person in this role provides support for a broad range of planning functions and is critical to carrying out key objectives for the department. Duties include both technical office and field work involved in the processing and review of regulatory applications and enforcement of City ordinances, codes and regulations; issuing permits for land use changes and construction; conducting inspections; and providing technical and administrative support to the Senior Planner, Planner, and other department staff.
Other duties may include:
• Evening and early morning meetings with the Historic District Commission, Planning Board, and Conservation Commission.
• Conducting surveys, compiling data, and performing statistical analysis.
• Providing information to the public relating to zoning, building code and environmental review.
The ideal candidate will be organized and detail oriented, with excellent public service skills, and able to multi-task in a fast paced environment with frequent interruptions. This position also requires the ability to read, analyze, and interpret procedures and governmental regulations, and to write reports and business correspondence. Computer skills are required, including a working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and graphics software. Minimum requirements are a Bachelor’s degree in planning or a closely related field, and at least one year of experience in municipal planning. A valid driver’s license is required.
