Planner – Natural Resources – Windham Regional Commission (WRC)

The Windham Regional Commission (WRC) seeks a highly skilled, self-motivated, full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) Planner with a natural resources emphasis to work with a team of dedicated professionals, volunteer commissioners, and municipal officials.  This position serves as the staff lead on natural resource matters in collaboration with colleagues and commissioners.  Working directly with the Executive Director, responsibilities include supporting the WRC’s role in water quality and watershed planning; planning and implementation of water quality, habitat improvement, and climate and flood resilience projects; developing strategies and policies to reduce forest fragmentation and improve habitat connectivity; engaging with municipal Conservation Commissions; and advising municipal officials, Planning Commissions, and Selectboards on matters related to a wide variety of natural resource issues. Much of this work is done in collaboration with a broad array of stakeholders.  Candidates should be familiar with regional and municipal planning tools (regulatory and non-regulatory), and must have excellent writing, public speaking, meeting facilitation, team building, community organizing, project development, grant writing, and project management skills.

This position requires a degree in planning or a closely related field and a minimum of three years experience in rural and/or regional planning.  A master’s degree in planning or a closely related field may be substituted for one year of required experience.

The WRC is the regional planning commission for a 27-town area of southeastern Vermont in Windham, Bennington, and Windsor counties.
