Given its proximity to Boston, major highways, mixture of land use, preserved open space, and continuous residential and commercial growth, Wellesley offers a mixture of planning challenges.
The Director must be a motivated individual that is holistic in their planning philosophy and focused on sustainability, resiliency, and sensitive to the history of the Town’s character while recognizing the need for responsible growth. They will also assist in the development and maintenance of an attractive residential community that emphasizes quality of life using goals identified in the recently completed Unified Plan.
The Director will manage, direct and administer municipal land use planning, zoning, and subdivision control programs within the Town as delineated by state statute and Town Bylaws and Zoning Bylaws while reporting to the Planning Board. Will serve as the Town’s principle professional advisor and resource on planning and development issues, providing technical expertise and professional techniques for the Board and the Town.
Recommends, prepares, and implements policies, programs, plans, and studies needed to guide short-range and long-range planning and land use challenges and opportunities. Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Planning Department and directly supervises Department personnel.
Requires a Master’s degree in Municipal Planning or related field, or equivalent experience, and five years planning experience with supervisory experience.
Salary up to $111,700 with an excellent benefit package.
