Conference Logo Competition
The Conference Committee of the Massachusetts Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA) is launching a design competition for the creation of a logo for the 2011 APA National Planning Conference. The 2011 conference will be in Boston April 9-12, 2011. All interested parties are invited to submit a logo design for consideration. This is an open competition to be judged by the 2011 APA Conference Merchandising Committee and selected by the 2011 APA Conference Committee Chairs.
The Prize
Special recognition of the winning logo designer will be given in the New England Planning Newsletter and on the APA-MA website, thus giving the winning logo and its designer wide exposure to planning professionals, organizations, companies and students across New England.
Competition Criteria & Format
- The logo must be able to fit on a range of merchandise and marketing items, including (but not limited to) T-shirts, hats, mugs, letterhead, etc. As such, the logo concept must be scalable, in color (maximum of 3 colors suggested), adapt well to electronic and printed media, and reproduce well on small and various surfaces. Respondents may submit up to three logo concepts (ex: larger logo for t-shirts, smaller on hats and mugs)
- The logo should have relevance to the Boston Area. If abstract, the logo must be simple and clear in concept.
- The logo must be distinctive in quality and originality of its visual image and not offend any national or cultural sensitivity.
- All logo concepts must be submitted in their final “camera-ready” form, in other words, as finished works, not sketches.
- Each submitter must send one large resolution and one small resolution of the flattened image in a jpeg, gif or pdf format.

- All entries must be free of any copyright or other intellectual property claims.
- The winning entry will be required to provide an Adobe Illustrator or Adobe Photoshop file at least 6” in height at least 300 DPI and in CMYK color.

- The 2011 APA Local Conference Committee reserves the right to not select any of the entries, as well as to decide how and when the winning entry will be used, including any modifications to the design and/or color palette.
- Upon completion of the competition, the Massachusetts Chapter of the American Planning Association will acquire ownership of the winning logo by assignment of copyright, and the logo designer will disclaim any trademarks and without limitation all of the rights related to the logo design.
