Environmental/Urban Planner – Fort Point Associates

Fort Point Associates, (www.fpa-inc.com ), a Tetra Tech Company, is currently seeking an energetic and highly motivated Environmental/Urban Planner to support a wide range of private development, institutional and public sector projects, including climate change and sustainable development issues. Join a top-notch team of planners in a friendly, flexible and collaborative downtown work environment.  This full-time position, located at 31 State Street, Boston MA, is easily accessible from all major transit lines including North Station and South Station.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing project approvals for small to large scale projects
  • Researching, preparing and producing environmental and planning documents and permit applications
  • Conducting research and drafting text, maps, and graphics for planning and permitting documents
  • Organizing project team and public meetings, including developing schedules, sending notifications, preparing agendas and leading presentations
  • Attendance at and logistical coordination for community meetings, including preparation of presentation materials 

Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of experience
  • Master’s degree in relevant field or five years of directly relevant work experience
  • Excellent technical writing, organizational and oral communication skills required
  • Ability to work in a team environment with staff from different disciplines and backgrounds
  • Familiarity with real estate planning and development including urban, waterfront, or institutional development
  • Knowledge of public processes associated with municipal planning and development
  • Familiarity with some or all of the following local, state and federal regulatory agencies: Planning Boards, Conservation Commissions, Historic Commissions, local Design Commissions, Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act, National Environmental Policy Act, MA Department of Environmental Protection (Chapter 91), US Environmental Protection Agency, and Army Corps of Engineers. Experience with the BPDA Article 80 review process
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required and Adobe Creative Suite, ArcGIS and/or AutoCAD highly desirable
