Planning & Economic Development Coordinator – Town of Barnstable

 The Town of Barnstable is seeking a Planning & Economic Development Coordinator to join the Planning & Development Department.  This position will be responsible for leading economic development initiatives, specifically planning projects and regulatory reforms to promote business investment, job growth, and housing production.  Barnstable offers a unique opportunity to work with an interdisciplinary team of professionals on dynamic efforts which currently include ongoing revitalization of Hyannis’ historic downtown and waterfront, commercial corridor plans, creative zoning reforms to promote housing production, and climate resiliency planning.

The Town of Barnstable, Massachusetts is a vibrant coastal community with a year-round population of 45,000 and a seasonal population of 150,000. Barnstable is a historic municipality comprised of seven distinct villages, including Hyannis, the economic, transportation, and government hub of Cape Cod.  The Planning & Development Department develops and implements progressive comprehensive land use strategies that seek to balance economic sustainability, with resource protection and capital infrastructure needs.

We are seeking a creative, team-oriented, and experienced professional capable of independently managing complex projects and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.  Successful candidates will have advanced planning experience, strong presentation skills and the ability to communicate effectively. Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in urban or regional planning, public administration, or a related field; and five years of progressively responsible experience in at least one of the following areas: physical planning, comprehensive planning, environmental planning, or community and economic development.  A Master’s degree in one of the above planning fields may be substituted for one (1) years of experience.$1,500.36 weekly ($78,018.84 annually) + benefits.
