Senior Planner – City of Portland

Department of Planning & Urban Development – Interested in working in one of the most dynamic cities in the northeast? Want to work in a fast paced and collaborative environment? We are seeking experiences candidates with excellent communication skills for a senior planner position with the Department of Planning and Urban Development, to engage in development review and to undertake planning initiatives for the sustained growth and vitality of Portland, Maine. This position will have a leading role in the effort to rewrite Portland’s Land Use Code (https://recodeportland.me.) Other tasks involve development review – with a focus on large, mixed use developments – and working as part of a team to develop a new unified development code, as well as special projects. Work requires project management, policy analysis and the management of processes to facilitate extensive community involvement.  Excellent written and oral communication skills needed.   Excellent human relations and negotiation skills required.  Municipal planning experience and master’s degree in planning or closely related field or equivalent combination required.  Offers of employment are contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory criminal background check.  Salary range is $1,006.13 to $1,131.38/week, based on education and experience plus 6% differential for attainment of an American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification.  Deadline for applications for this position is Tuesday, March 26, 2019.
