Senior Transportation Planner – MASCO, Boston, MA

This is an outstanding career advancement opportunity for the transportation planner to contribute to high-profile strategies, studies, and designs for one of Boston’s busiest and most dynamic neighborhoods. The 20-million square-foot LMA hosts 29,000 students, 57,000 workers traveling to and from their jobs daily, and 2.3 million patients accessing critical medical services annually. MASCO is a recognized leader in optimizing safe and efficient transportation to the area via all modes, including car, MBTA, MASCO shuttle service, bike, ambulance, and on foot.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Vice President of Area Planning and Development, the Senior Transportation Planner will assist in the planning and implementation of a variety of initiatives in transportation planning and travel demand management program implementation. Key responsibilities:

  • Serve as lead planner to meet area-wide needs for parking and multimodal access, and liaison to local and state transportation agencies, boards, and task forces.
  • Perform regional and district-level studies of transportation infrastructure to identify improvements to pedestrian, bicycle, transit, and vehicle networks.
  • Develop short- and long-term improvements using appropriate engineering/design standards.
  • Monitor governmental policies that may affect the LMA’s transportation systems and assist in developing policy positions, advocacy strategies, and presentations.
  • Manage contract transportation engineers; supervise Coordinator of CommuteWorks, a MASCO program offering incentive programs for transit riders, drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
  • Direct and perform field work and maintain databases to aid in transportation systems planning.
  • Provide technical assistance to MASCO members.

Other requirements: Bachelor’s degree in transportation planning or related field, master’s preferred; eight years’ experience in transportation planning/engineering; proficiency in Microsoft Office and CAD; knowledge of city and state transportation project development, planning, and funding processes; excellent analytical, presentation, verbal and written communication skills; and ‘can-do’ attitude with a flexible work style.
