We are on the hunt for an urban designer/planner with at least three years of relevant experience working in urban environments to join our busy practice. Who are we, exactly? Harriman is one of the nation’s oldest architectural firms with offices in Massachusetts, Maine and New Hampshire. We are also the continuation of The Cecil Group, with broad and deep experience in urban planning and design throughout New England. We are small in size and large in impact, and we are looking for someone who wants to contribute their energy, curiosity, and skills to our clients and our team!

What you’ll do here:

  • Work collaboratively with our multi-disciplinary team on the design, presentation, documentation and production of various urban design and planning projects
  • Research, analyze, evaluate, generate, and present planning and urban design ideas with limited oversight
  • Develop complex analytical, technical, and illustrative graphics, drawings, and renderings for use in reports and public meetings
  • Coordinate directly with clients and subconsultants, preparing materials and presentations for team and public meetings
  • Dive into the communities we work with, attending client and community meetings, conducting public outreach, and facilitating community engagement programs, including personal interviews and on-site events
  • Contribute, as needed, to project proposals and interviews
  • Provide internal support, as needed, to architectural projects requiring assistance


  • 3+ years of professional urban planning and/or urban design work
  • An advanced degree in city planning, urban design, or related field with a background in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or Planning
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp and AutoCAD
  • Strong written and graphic capabilities
