Assistant to Planner – Town of Carlisle, MA

The Town of Carlisle seeks qualified applicants for the full-time Assistant to Planner position. Performs skilled professional, technical, clerical and administrative support for the Planning Administrator and the Planning Board, including correspondence, meeting scheduling, compiling reports, and responding to and resolving citizen and other public inquiries. Independently performs varied and responsible duties requiring thorough knowledge of departmental operations and the exercise of extensive judgment and initiative to perform duties, complete assigned and initiated tasks, and analyze the facts or circumstances surrounding individual issues with minimal daily supervision. Works under the direction of the Planning Administrator and the Planning Board Chair, generally establishing own daily work plan and choosing between appropriate courses of action to achieve defined objectives, with only unusual tasks referred to supervisors. Regularly staffs office alone, as Planning Administrator position is part-time.

 Bachelor’s Degree in urban/regional planning or related field required, and a minimum of three years of progressive, responsible experience in administrative work in municipal government, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience, including working with the public, office management and experience in word processing, spreadsheet, GIS and file maintenance programs is preferred.  Starting salary is $29.98/hr. for 33 hrs./week.  A copy of the full job description will be provided on request.  Send cover letter and resume by May 31, 2018, to Town Administrator, 66 Westford Street, Carlisle, MA  01741, or email to: townhall@carlislema.gov.
