Regional Planning Agency Seeks Four (4) Interns

Regional Planning Agency CMRPC seeking four (4) interns, preferably at the Masters level from academic programs such as environmental science or studies, urban planning, urban studies, geography, political science, or another related field. Rate is $12.54/hour. Particular skills sought include good communication skills, familiarity with GIS, MS Office, graphic design and urban design skills including Google SketchUp, and/or Adobe Creative Cloud. Experience with web design and social media a plus.

The Central Massachusetts Regional Planning Commission (CMRPC) through its Community Development and Planning (CDAP) Department seeks four (4) part-time interns for the following tracks:

  1. Green Communities: seeking two part-time (2) interns to assist our Green Communities team with data collection, grant administration, reporting, correspondence, record keeping, and other tasks related to the designation and maintenance of municipalities as Green Communities (https://www.mass.gov/orgs/green-communities-division-massdoer). Qualified candidates will possess the following skills: data analysis, organization, and oral and written communications. Familiarity with alternative energy programs or issues is a distinct plus. Position covers November 2017 through May 2018 with possible extensions through August and/or December. Up to 15 hours weekly per position.
  2. Long Range Planning: seeking one (1) part-time intern to assist with municipal Master Plans. Responsibilities include data collection and analysis, research, narrative writing, event planning, social media, web design and site maintenance, communication in public settings, and other tasks. Preferred candidates will have knowledge of or direct experience in land use planning, zoning, open space, economic development, transportation, or other areas relevant to master plans. Position covers January 2018 through as late as December 2018 (up to 45 weeks) and seeking commitment at least through May. Up to 15 hours per week for this position.
  3. Planning and Community Development: the division seeks one (1) part-time intern to assist with a range of local and regional planning projects including economic development studies, priority development area plans, school district consolidation feasibility studies, Green Communities projects, and more. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a wide variety of issues and topics within the planning field.  Position covers late November 2017 through May 2018 with possibility of extension. Up to 15 hours per week for the position.

Please note that we will need some commitment through most of December and January for positions 1 and 3.
