Executive Director

The Connecticut Metropolitan Council of Governments (METROCOG), a multi-discipline regional planning organization with six member communities – Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Monroe, Stratford and Trumbull is seeking a well-qualified candidate to fill the position of Executive Director. Under the supervision of the Board of Directors, the position of Executive Director performs professional and technical work involving the administration, strategy, program development, and management of the long-range land-use planning, regional planning, transportation planning, urban design and economic development process.

Essential Duties:

  • Work with the Board of Directors to oversee the comprehensive planning process for the CT Metro Region.
  • Actively pursue grant funding and innovate opportunities for collaboration
  • Coordinate the functions necessary to carry-out the planning tasks included in the UPWP
  • Administer the federal/state transportation planning process.
  • Identify opportunities for and coordinate technical assistance to member communities.
  • Maintain and enhance the professional and technical capabilities of the planning, GIS and support staff.
  • Support Regional Economic Development Initiatives
  • Manage agency financial and administrative operations
  • Collaborate with adjacent RPOs and MPOs as needed.

Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is considered qualifying; a typical candidate for this position will possess a bachelors and masters degree from an accredited university with major coursework in planning, public administration, engineering, or a closely related field and ten (10) years of extensive and progressively responsible management, supervisory, and professional experience in transportation planning, program management, public administration, and/or related areas. AICP certification is preferred.

The salary for this position will depend on qualifications & experience. Anticipated range is $95,000-$120,000 with employee benefits including health, 401K, professional membership, etc.
