Town Planner/Zoning Compliance Officer, Town of Bellingham

The town of Bellingham is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Town Planner/Zoning Compliance Officer.   The Town Planner/Zoning Compliance Officer shall do, perform, and carry out in a satisfactory manner, acting in a manner deemed reasonable by planning professionals in Massachusetts and under the ethical guidelines dictated by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), services as directed by the Bellingham Planning Board. Said services shall include attendance at all Planning Board meetings, unless conflicts occur due to vacation, illness or other unavoidable circumstances. The Town Planner/Zoning Compliance Officer shall maintain full-time hours consistent with Town Hall.

Works under the policy direction of Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals.

Exercises considerable independent judgment and initiative in developing and implementing policies and programs in managing technical projects and departmental affairs.

Supervises one part time employee.

Makes frequent contacts with developers and other real estate interests, local and regional and state officials, and the general public requiring perceptiveness and discretion. Makes frequent contacts with diverse Town Boards and Departments.

Minimal physical effort required in performing most duties under typical office conditions. Occasional light physical effort required to perform site inspections and review with little exposure to occupational risk.

Attendance at all other meetings in which planning initiatives are discussed to include Town Meeting will be expected. The Planner/Compliance Officer shall serve as an ex-officio member of any zoning or general bylaw review committee.

Salary $67,000 – $73,000 based on experience

Bachelor’s Degree in urban or regional planning, public transportation, or related field preferred; five years of progressively responsible planning experience including supervisory and administrative experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
