Boston Green Space App Intern

The Metropolitan Area Planning Council’s Data Services Department seeks an Intern to assist in the creation and expansion of the Boston Green application.  The Boston Green app contains a map and an easy-to-use listing of all parks and open spaces in Greater Boston, as well as information about the facilities they contain, such as playing fields, walking trails, and beaches. MAPC and Code for Boston are currently building V 2.0 of the application. The intern will have the opportunity to work with other volunteers to lead the expansion of its content.  Specific activities may include: collecting and compiling data about Metro Boston parks from a variety of open space plans, social media and site visits; taking photos of the facilities in a park; writing up a description of the green space.  Must be an advanced undergraduate or graduate student in Urban Planning or a related field, have the ability to manage data, and familiarity with ESRI ArcMap.  Experience with photography, communications on the web, programming and familiarity with Metro Boston regional are all preferred.  Candidates must be comfortable travelling around the Boston area for data collection by public transportation, on foot, or by bike.  This is a paid, part-time internship with flexibility. Only candidates currently enrolled in an academic program will be considered for this position.
