Do you care about providing housing for people of all incomes? Love Portland, Maine? Enjoy public policy work? This may be job for you! The Housing and Community Development Division of the Portland Planning & Urban Development Department seeks a candidate to join our team.


Primary job responsibilities include planning and implementing the City’s housing policy and development initiatives, including developing policies and plans, evaluation of development proposals and funding requests, soliciting community input, and providing development oversight. The ideal candidate for this position must possess excellent customer service and communication skills. Experience in housing policy, knowledge of development regulations and standards of review, ability to work effectively with a variety of individuals, groups and organizations,  and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing are needed!  Familiarity and experience with U.S. Department of Housing Urban Development Programs such as CDBG and HOME, the Low Income Housing Tax Credit and Historic Preservation Tax Credit programs are preferred.


A Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration or related field is required. A Master’s degree in Planning or a related field of study is preferred.  Salary DOQ consistent with City pay grades and bargaining agreements.
