Transportation Planning Intern – MAPC, Boston

Transportation Planning Intern 

The Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC), the regional planning agency for Metro Boston, seeks a Transportation Planning Intern (hereafter, Intern) to assist with planning studies related to parking analyses, bicycle and pedestrian planning, transit oriented development, and other activities. The intern will conduct data collection, policy research, attend planning meetings, and write reports.  Position requires a time commitment of 15-20 hours/week, days and hours flexible during regular business hours.  Examples of duties include: conduct parking utilization and traffic counts; Data collection and analysis to support the development of a parking calculator tool; Interface with municipal officials to gather data and information on development and parking.  Qualifications include: Candidates must be BA or MA in planning, public policy, or a related field;  experience with Geographic Information System (GIS), Adobe Creative Suite, and statistical analysis programs; demonstrated knowledge of planning concepts, such as land use, transportation, housing, economic development, sustainable development, equity, and zoning; experience working with diverse data sets from federal, state, and local agencies like Census, American Community Survey, Bureau of Labor statistics, and Census Transportation Planning Products;

If this is desired, please mention it when applying.  Compensation is $15 – $20 per hour, without benefits. The internship will begin in October 2014 and last at least until the end of January 2015. Potential to extend internship to June 2015 depending on the progress of work products and available funding.  This position is a non-exempt position pursuant to the FLSA.  Only candidates currently enrolled in an academic program will be considered. Candidates must have legal authorization to work in the USA and a valid driver’s license and/or the ability to arrange transportation to meetings in different parts of the region.
