Travel Demand Modeler

The Central Transportation Planning Staff (CTPS) of the Boston Region Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is seeking an applicant who is a traffic demand modeler and transportation planner. This individual will be involved in a variety of assignments, which could include travel demand forecasting, transportation planning, traffic engineering, and transportation policy evaluation.

The qualified candidate must have:

  • A Master’s degree in transportation planning, urban and regional planning, traffic engineering; or a closely related field
  • Two years of experience in a transportation-planning field
  • Thorough knowledge of travel demand modeling methods using either TransCAD or EMME
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • The ability to work both collaboratively and independently
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Skills in the following areas are desirable, but not required:

  • Familiarity with one or more computer programming languages
  • Understanding of land use modeling
  • Expertise in economic impact assessments
  • Experience in Air Quality modeling using MOVES
  • Knowledge of statistical methods
  • Working knowledge of GIS using ArcGIS
  • Knowledge of the FTA New Starts process
  • Familiarity with traffic engineering and microsimulation software, such as Synchro, TransModeler, and Vissim
