Town Planner – Town of Billerica

The Town of Billerica (population 41,000) seeks qualified applicants for the position of Town Planner. The Town Planner works under the direction of the Town Manager and is responsible for administrative and technical work in directing the planning function for the Town. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: land use planning; staffing and providing technical assistance to 7 member Planning Board, drafting planning ordinances, making recommendations to the Planning Board for appropriate action or conditions to be imposed, attending and staffing Planning Board meetings, collecting land use data in preparation of development of zoning regulations, assisting and providing technical assistance to various Town Boards and Committees. In addition this position will work closely with the Town’s Economic Development Team to complete any planning and community development initiatives as may be directed by the Town Manager.

Qualifications: ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with outside agencies, municipal officials, coworkers and the general public, thorough knowledge of  principles and practices of planning and development, thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of municipal land use planning, knowledge of municipal zoning statutes, ability to analyze and interpret relevant laws, ordinances, rules and regulations. Bachelors Degree in Urban Planning or other relevant disciplines (Master’s preferred), 3-5 years experience in municipal planning.
