Principal Planner/Economic Development Coordinator – Town of Shrewsbury

The Town of Shrewsbury, MA seeks qualified and energetic individuals to perform professional work in coordinating the town’s planning program and subdivision control law and working with the Shrewsbury Development Corporation to design, develop and implement economic development plans.

Applicants should have thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of planning, zoning, and related state and local land use law, procedures, regulations and standards as well as thorough knowledge of Massachusetts General Laws related to planning and zoning issues.

The position works under the administrative direction of the Town Engineer and works in cooperation with the Building Inspector, Board of Health, the Planning Board, the Shrewsbury Development Corporation and other municipal departments as needed.  The Town of Shrewsbury places a strong emphasis on its organization culture and spirit of cooperation among the staff, boards, and commissions.  

The successful candidate will possess superior leadership, administration, interpersonal, oral and written communication and organizational skills, and computer proficiency.

Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in planning and/or civil engineering or a related field.  A Master’s Degree preferred.  Applicants should also have three years of experience in planning, preferably in the public sector; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The starting salary range for the position is $52,200 to $63,450
